Add your Canvas calendar to Google Calendar or iPhone (with your class schedule)

Assignment due dates live in Canvas, your timetable comes from the university's system, exams are posted somewhere else, your work shifts are in whatever scheduling app your employer uses, and your personal life is in Google Calendar or on your iPhone. Checking five places is how a deadline slips or a shift lands on an exam. iCal Merge pulls them all into one feed you add to Google Calendar or your iPhone once, so your whole term sits in a single calendar on your phone.

Why students end up with scattered calendars

Canvas (and other learning systems like Blackboard or Moodle) publishes assignment and course dates as a calendar feed. Your school's timetable tool publishes lectures and tutorials separately. Add exams, club events, a part-time job's shift schedule (most scheduling systems, from Best Buy's My TLC to When I Work, Kronos and Workday, publish one as a calendar feed too), and your own Google calendar, and you've got several feeds that never meet. Merging them gives you one view of everything that's due, every shift, and everywhere you need to be.

Step 1: Get the Canvas calendar feed

In Canvas, open Calendar, click Calendar Feed in the sidebar, and copy the link it gives you. That single feed covers the assignments and events across your enrolled courses. Step 2: Add each one as a source

Create a calendar in iCal Merge and add each link as a source: Canvas, your class timetable, exams, and anything else. Each event is prefixed with the source name, so you can tell a lecture from a deadline at a glance.

Step 3: Add it to Google Calendar or your iPhone

iCal Merge gives you one feed with your whole term in it, and the subscribe buttons do the rest. Google Calendar: the button opens Google's add-by-URL page with the link filled in (or choose Other calendars → From URL yourself and paste it). iPhone or Mac: tap Apple Calendar and the Calendar app asks to subscribe, or scan the QR code from your laptop. It stays current on its own: new assignments, timetable changes and next week's shifts show up automatically, all term long.

A quick tip

Some calendars give you a link that starts with webcal://. Paste it in as-is. iCal Merge handles webcal:// links automatically, so you don't need to change it to https:// first.
